Winged Blog Tour

Lately I’ve been gravitating towards butterflies in my sewing projects. I think I’ve always loved the look of them, but I also love that they represent new life and being changed from one form to another. It reminds me of 2 Corinthians 5:17, which says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away, behold, the new has come.” Definitely words that comfort me in this season of mommyhood! Butterflies are beautiful to look at, but plant that promise in my heart every time I see them.

Some of my favorite butterfly prints have been from Art Gallery Fabrics, so when I had an opportunity to join the Winged Blog Tour for Bonnie Christine of Going Home to Roost, I was literally tripping over myself to apply! I may or may not have gone all fangirl. Bonnie’s prints are soft and ethereal and paired with the smooth drape of Art Gallery Fabrics, they are a perfect match! I was graciously provided 2 half yard cuts of Bonnie’s Winged line, so I went with Metamophosis Quartz and Wingspan Fig in cotton, and then added some knit from my stash in Apricot Plumage.
Winged Blog TourMy next choice was easy. A pattern that takes very little fabric for my size 4 diva. I have been wanting to add long sleeves to the Evie from Izzy & Ivy Designs, so this was a great opportunity to do just that! I even threw in the tiniest scrap from Bonnie’s previous line, Sweet as Honey.
Winged Blog TourThis totally made me fall in love with orange. We have pretty fair complexions and usually steer clear of warmer colors, but these shades of coral and salmon are just cool enough for my little beauty.
Winged Blog TourThis dress is absolutely perfect for half yard cuts, or even fat quarters if you sew the smaller sizes. I combined 2 of the strips in the middle of the skirt to show off more of Bonnie’s gorgeous prints.
Winged Blog TourI also took the sleeves from the Tallulah from Izzy & Ivy and added them to make it a little more Fall/Winter friendly. Check back tomorrow for a tutorial on how to do that!
Winged Blog TourWinged Blog TourBelieve it or not, there are 31 (!!!) bloggers on this tour and so many beautiful creations! A whole month of pretties to drool over  inspire you! Here are a few more spots on the tour worth mentioning:

  2. Jessica, this dress is beautiful, and you’re right, it showcases Bonnie’s fabrics to perfection. I don’t sew clothes (I’m scared) but this makes me wonder if I should re-think my fear! Love it!
