One of the things I love about the internet and social media is that every once in awhile you meet people that you really connect with. You have things in common, like sewing, or the love of food, and you just mesh. And sometimes, if you’re really blessed, you get to meet those people in real life (and prove to your husband that they aren’t serial killers or something crazy). I met my friend Johnna last year through a mutual friend/food blogger (Hi, Debi!), and when she comes in town, we meet at our favorite allergy-friendly bakery and just have a blast.
Long story short, not only is Johnna a fabulous food blogger, but she and her husband own a balloon sculpting company called Up, Up & Away, based out of Kansas City. What a fun job, right? They get hired to do these amazing displays and they are stunning! So we planned to meet up and do a fun photo shoot when they came in town, and today I’m sharing that collaboration with you!
Johnna brought these fabulous 36″ balloons for our shoot, and even dolled them up with gorgeous papers, tassels, and lace. Miss Lydia about passed out when she saw them.
We really need to talk about this dress, too. This is a remix of my latest pattern, Charly, which is actually a TUNIC! I decided to turn it into a dress by adding a ruffle to the hem. I also hacked the sleeves so they were 3/4 length, and taped the 2 skirt pieces together instead of cutting them on the fold. On the left side, you see “Sneakers in Spring” from This and That 2 by Ann Kelle for Robert Kaufman Fabrics. This fabric was really the inspiration for this entire project and I was SO excited that it came together so well. On the stripwork side, you’ll see more Robert Kaufman, a few Michael Miller prints (because dots!), as well as a pretty Pearl Bracelet from Lizzy House and Dear Stella in blue. The knits are from Riley Blake.
We even found a pair of white and pink Chucks with silver, glittery dots on them. And that was totally after I had planned out the dress. My only regret? Not getting a good pic of those shoes!
