For Quilt Market this year, I had a chance to sew for a new-to-me fabric designer. Susan Emory of Swirly Girl Designs creates for Michael Miller Fabrics, and her latest line, Summer Lovin’, has some of the cutest prints! I got a chance to play with it and I thought I’d share my creations with you! It’s shipping now, so find your favorite retailer that sells Michael Miller and check it out!
I am a sucker for fun plaids, so when Susan shared her prints with me, I had to have some. This is the Izzy & Ivy Designs Brooklyn’s Boho Maxi Dress, which comes in paper and PDF. The paper version has a fuller tier on the bottom, so I chose that for this particular line. I love the mod vibe that Summer Lovin’ gives! This dress is perfect for summer!
Did I mention that I’ve had Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta in my head since April because of this fabric?
I went with the plaid again for my second project, and while I missed Independence Day with this one, it’s not too late for the Summer Olympics next month! There’s even a splash of green in the white floral print, but definitely more of that color in other prints!
This skirt is a spin off of the Izzy & Ivy Designs Addie Jo skirt, which is available in paper. I sewed view C and did a hemband instead of a ruffle, and added a simple, square pocket on top of each side seam. I dug through my trim stash to find the perfect Cluny lace, cherry ribbon, and shiny, red buttons!
Perfectly paired with the red Chucks I bought at Quilt Market, too! Although she did tell me today that they were pinching her feet. Stop growing so fast, child! Your shoes need to last longer than two months! *Sigh*
