I have this quirky little habit when it comes to fabric designers. Sometimes I give designers nicknames. I use them with my fabric savvy friends because we all talk online and our fingers get weary of typing out all of the names. You know, because we have to save our precious fingers for the sewing. Names like JPags, JDew, and AMH frequent our conversations, and Mrs. Paganelli, Mr. Dewberry, and Mrs. Horner are among our favorites.
When Free Spirit sent me fabric from these three designers for my Quarter 2 and Quarter 3 projects, I was so excited, especially to have my hands on Loominous 2, the sequel to Anna Maria Horner’s Loominous line of woven yarn dyes. These are richly hued fabrics that have a raised texture and add another dimension to any project that you create. The first project I sewed with Loominous 2 is a Charly Tunic from Izzy & Ivy Designs.
My daughter’s school had a Spirit Day earlier this week and they got to wear school colors with jeans, instead of their normal uniforms. We didn’t have anything yellow and blue for Miss L, and as I was looking through my fabric stash, I noticed this lovely variation of a checkered plaid and knew I had THE fabric! Of course, my oldest son is now wanting a button down shirt in this too. I assured him that I had a cut of the same fabric in another colorway with his name on it.
Charly is a hi-low tunic with a knit bodice and woven skirt. I was able to add Loominous 2’s Checkered Past in Lantern to an Art Gallery Knit from my stash, and I’m still pinching myself over the pairing. This particular piece from Loominous 2 is very breezy and is almost a shirting weight, which is so amazing for this pattern. It comes in Sky and Field and they coordinate well with other fabrics in the line.
With our freckles, fair skin, and blue eyes, we don’t usually venture into wearing yellow, but this is a great way to feature a warmer color with a cool, familiar one. Gets me out of my color rut, too! Know what I’m talking about?
This field provided the perfect pop of yellow and stunning sunset to let Summer’s last rays of warmth play a part in our photo shoot. As much as the tall, dry grass was itching her skin, she insisted on running her hands through the wildflowers. Oh, to be that carefree!
Loominous 2 ships in October, so check with your favorite shop. Come back here next week for more pretties and a GIVEAWAY! You can enter the current Cali Mod giveaway HERE.
