Yesterday we finished up the stripwork portion of the Evie skirt and today we will be working on the waistband. A really fast sew today compared to sewing up all of those strips of fabric! But they are SO worth it in the end. If you are just now joining us, head over to Day 1 and Day 2’s posts to get caught up! We have some extra days built in, so you can still make it!
Today you will take the 6 pieces you have leftover: 4 strips for the waistband and 2 wider strips for the sash pieces. I realize it’s going to drive some people nuts that I used different fabric in yesterday’s tutorial. I didn’t originally plan to do a tutorial on how to add the trim. It just means I now have TWO cute skirts for my girlie. Don’t be jealous.. 🙂
Using the instructions from your pattern in section A, step J, sew your sash pieces.
Now take your 2 of your 4 waistband pieces, pin them RST (right sides together) down the long side, and sew. Repeat with the remaining 2 pieces. I’m using a 1/2″ seam allowance just like the original pattern tutorial.
You now have 2 waistband pieces. Iron those open.
Take your sash pieces and place them just below the seam.
Pin in place. You may also baste these in place if you wish.
Repeat on the opposite side with the remaining sash piece.
Take your other waistband piece and place it on top of the your sash pieces/waistband. Now you have a sash sandwich!
Pin on both sides.
Sew up your sides. Fold your piece so that the sash pieces are now on the outside, and it should look like a waistband now! We’re almost there, but we’re finished for today!
Go post your finished waistband in our Facebook Fan Group to gain an additional entry in the Sew Along Giveaway! Thanks for joining me again today, and I’ll see you back here tomorrow!
