Welcome back! By now you should have all of your fabric cut and ready to sew! Today we’ll be working on the bodice and the waistband and ties, so grab your pieces and let’s get started!
Section a- bodice and neck binding
If you are new to the Tallulah pattern or sewing with knits, please refer to your PDF for tips on working with knits!
Take your back bodice piece and lay it right side up.
Take one of your front bodice pieces, lay it on top of the back bodice piece, right sides together, and match up the shoulder seams. Sew or serge the shoulder seams. Repeat with the opposite side.
Now take your long neckband piece that is 2″ x the width of the fabric. Match the long ends and press the piece in half, using lots of steam. Starting on the right side of the fabric, on one “corner” of the bodice unit, sew the neckband piece to the bodice unit, slightly stretching as you go.
Trim the excess, press the neckband piece away from the bodice unit, and topstitch 1/8″ from the seam, on the bodice side.
Pin the 2 front bodice pieces together so that they will act as one piece. You may baste the pieces together if you wish.
Press the waistband piece according to the pattern instructions, and match the bottom edge up with the front bodice piece. Pin in place, and topstitch the waistband in place. Make sure you’re only sewing through the front bodice pieces!
Sew your side ties up according to the pattern instructions,, turn right sides out, press well, and topstitch.
Tie placement is as follows: with the assembled bodice pieces in front of you, place the short tie on the right side (where the left front bodice piece overlaps the right front piece), and the long tie on the left side. You can see how there is way more tie on the left than on the right. This will mimic the faux wrap of the dress/top even more!
We’re going to stop here today, since some are choosing to add full sleeves and some are doing sleeveless. If you have any questions, check for more in depth instructions in your pattern, or ask in our fan group! Make sure you post your finished pics for the day to be entered in the drawing!
See you tomorrow!
