After another round of “Increase My Bandwidth” we are up and running again. Thanks again to the amazing ladies that are sewing up their gorgeous Tallulah Dresses and Tunics! I have a mashup planned for August, but I’ll have another sew along planned for the fall, so if you liked this one, keep hanging out with us!
So on to day five! You should have your finished bodice, complete with sleeves or no sleeves! The rest of the garment is a piece of cake, so we’re just going to knock that all out today and give you a few days to finish up. If you’re just now joining us, be sure to check out the previous days’ posts to get all of the info you need to make a great Tallulah!
Lay one of your skirt pieces down right side up.
Lay the other skirt piece down, right sides together, matching up your sides.
Sew together, then finish the seam as desired. Repeat with the opposite side. If you are adding the pockets, go ahead an follow the directions according to the pattern. If you are sewing the tunic, also see the pattern for hemming instructions.
If you are sewing the dress version, continue here! Take one hemband piece and lay it down, right side up.
Lay the other hemband piece down on top, right sides together, and sew. Do not finish this seam, but sew the opposite side as well. Press the seams open.
You now have your hemband loop! Fold the hemband in half longways, wrong sides together, and press well.
Pin this hemband loop to the skirt unit, right sides together, raw ends matching.
Sew the hemband on, and finish the seam. Press the seam up towards the skirt, then topstitch.
Now here’s where the sad part comes in. After I took this photo, the needle fell out of my machine because the screw had been stripped and the threads were GONE! So I had to pull out my extra machine and I didn’t have room to do a step-by-step. So sorry! The only steps left are to
- Sew a basting stitch at 3/8″ and 5/8″ from the top edge of the skirt, then gather the skirt to fit the with of the bodice.
- Turn the skirt piece right side out, insert the bodice piece upside down and inside the skirt. Pin the skirt to the bodice, making sure to get those ties out of the way and to make sure the side seams match up. Sew and finish the seam as desired.
- Turn the dress right side out and press well, pressing the seam allowance up towards the bodice. Topstitch the seam allowance in the FRONT only, which is on the waistband.
Get your cute girl, try on her dress, and snap a pic! Enter it in the group for more chances to win great prizes!!!
